Amsterdam - Keukenhof Transit

We will be going to Keukenhof Gardens from Amsterdam, from Noorderstraat 74. How best to get to KG from there?

I've seen info about a combi-ticket. Is that the best (and cheapest) way? If so, where to pick that up from the above address?

To use a combi-ticket, do you need to buy the tickets ahead? Or can we just buy it when we get on the bus?

If we buy it ahead, is it good any day, or do we need to specify which day it is for?
I've seen them for sale on several different websites. Is one better than another?

Take the train to Leiden station from where shuttle buses go constantly to the Keukenhof - easiest way.

... or pick up the Keukenhof Express at Schiphol airport, which is closer to Amsterdam.
It is, of course, highly recommended to pick up the Keukenhof Express to Leiden after you've finished with the flowers. Nice city. Largest historical centre after Amsterdam. But your combi-ticket is also valid for Haarlem. Also not to be missed.

You can get a combi ticket from Connexxion for the 197 bus from Amsterdam (Leidsplein, Museumplein) and the 858 Keukenhof bus from Schiphol.

http://www.keukenhof.nl/en/plan-your...=1&language=en has a list of places to buy them

There is lots of information on how to get to Keukenhof on their site, with prices etc.

If you can take a bus from or to Haarlem and Keukenhof the bus goes right thru the heart of the flower fields and as someone said above Haarlem is a gem too- combine your day out in flowers with a visit to Leiden or Haarlem - making a wonderful day.

I would avoid weekends at the gardens - very crowded one Sunday when I went - locals descend on it at weekends and there are long lines at times to get into the several hot houses holding the marquee attractions of the Dutch Flower Industry.

The "best" depends on your perspective, i.e., most convenient, cheapest, quickest, most interesting, etc..

I prefer to go Dutch, i.e., ride a bike. You can train to either Haarlem or Leiden, rent a bike, and then pedal through the tulip fields. I've done this several times from Haarlem and look forward to my next expedition. The Keukenhof and the open tulip fields are masterworks of beauty.

I suggest that you be flexible on the trip since Holland is subject to rain and wind. Go in the afternoon after the tulips have opened. They close up and sleep overnight. For your return you can spend a few hours in Haarlem or Leiden. These cities are far more pleasant and picturesque than Amsterdam.

A recent thread on FF has some additional information about Keukenhof, and Holland, that you may find of value.

FYI, I have been following the TulipsInHolland website recently, as we are making a trip there starting Saturday, and the latest (today) email said not to expect tulips until the second week of April. We will probably not go to Keukenhof, then, as we have only next week and weekend to visit the country.

I have done similar sans bike but walking - take the Haarlem to Leiden train and get off at the Hillegom station and from there do a lovely tiptoe thru the flower fields the 2-3 miles to the Keunkenhof - passing flowers all the way - the heart of Holland's flower belt. then take the shuttle bus to Leiden maybe - seeing some of Haarlem and or Leiden the same day - both wonderful old towns.
