I'm off to Amsterdam in April to see my son and I m also hoping to see some tulips as well, not that he isn't a gorgeous flower.... so thanks for all the suggestions. I had to help a group of lost tourists on their bikes last year who were cycling around the Nieuwendammerdijk, I was walking and had my phone with gps so could help them. It is a lovely area and I discovered it on foot as my son now lives in Bovenover (which resembles a gulag in my opinion but I digress).
Is Kuekenhof like the Chelsea flower show - that is, hopelessly crowded.? I want to go but can't stand the crowds, I had to leave the flower show as I became almost claustrophobic.

Last time I was there about a decade ago on a Sunday the place was totally mobbed - had to wait in long lines to get into hothouses. I'd avoid weekends when locals flock here along with the usual bus tours. But the outside of these it was OK - but the hothouses are the big show it seemed and not the tulips.

I go there, because I did the promo photography for the band Heilung. Ruben Terlouw, who is in it and myself translated the Old English Rune Poem into Dutch for his photo project. And so I did some of their gig photography as well.
