Amsterdam hotels
We need 2 hotel rooms for 4 people for the night of May 30 as we have an overnight stay in Amsterdam on our return from Germany. Does anyone have any info on AMS Museum which is a 3 star hotel. I sent them an email message & room prices are listed as Hfl. 280,00. Is this a sign for guilders? What would this be in American $? We need to decide quickly & any help would be appreciated. We get into Amsterdam about 10:00 pm & leave the next day about 3:00 pm so we won't be there long enough to need any luxury. Thanks. Lil

p.s. to the above message
I forgot to mention that if anyone knows of another hotel that has an airport shuttle or easy train access at about $100 a room for two people, let us know. Again, luxury is not a necessity but clean beds, toilette & shower are. After 2 weeks in Germany we would like a good nights sleep so want someplace fairly quiet. It would be nice to be able to see something of Amsterdam in the Am before our flight so again ideas for what to do with little time? Thanks, Lil

FL 280,00 is indeed in Guilders and is equal (today)to about $138 if you put it on a credit card (for the best exchange rate). This sounds reasonable for 2 people if it is a 3-star and is centrally located.
The best thing to do in such a short time in Amsterdam is just to walk around and view the beautiful canals and architecture.

Lil, the Ibis hotel at Schipol Airport has a free airport shuttle and (via the airport's station) very quick connections on the train to the city. It's a comfortable if not picturesque place, but with plenty of 24-hr amenities because of all the air crews etc. who stay there. Spend the night, take the shuttle to the airport, drop bags in a locker, head into town. We've stayed there a couple of times, and given your schedule it might work out OK. I think the price might be OK for you, too. Check out http://www.medialink.nl/amsterdam/hotelguide/schip.html
