Amsterdam airport with 5 hour layover

Is a 5 hour layover in Amsterdam enough time to take the train into the city to look around? We're thinking about booking a NW flight to Papris that would give us a 5 hour layover. How long should the train take to and from the airport? Thanks,

Karen

It's 15 minutes to Centraal. I would say you can have 2+ hours to stroll around Amsterdam. Many cafes, restaurants, shops within a short walk of the train station. Possibly a "coffee" shop or two if you so desire.

Have a great trip!

If Babbitt goes to a 'coffee' shop or two, he/she may forget to go back to the airport.

What was the question again????

I waiting for the inevitable development at Schiphol which seems to have everything - an airport coffeeshop! I heard they actually had a redlight area there but can't substantiate that.

Well gosh darn! We had a 5 hour layover in Amsterdam--because Paris was fogged in. So, because it wasn't a planned layover we couldn't leave. However, from what I've read here and from what I saw from the airplane, I do want to go back for a night or two there.
