Americans travel to Russia. Is it safe?

There is no reason for tourists to worry about the internal affairs of this country as it affects them during the visit..
That is the issue, it only affects neighbours, internal "dissidents" politicians, lawyers etc. The critical word is only" and if you can stomach that... well

Hello everybody.
I have even registered here to have opportunity to leave a comment.
I am Russian native speaker and citizen living in Saint-Petersburg. Our city is beautyful! And it is not worse than many European cities. Your trip will be not less safe than in another European city. Even if you go to the outskirts you will be safe. We have no such district where people better not go in, like it is shown in some American movies about Afroamerican areas, for example.
I think nobody will descriminate you because you speak English or any other language.
But I have to warn that our country (I mean simple guys) is not tolerate to LGBT. But it is ok if you don't demonstrate your orientation too much or walk dressed as a woman right on the streets.
If you have some questions be free to write me on e-mail: [email protected]
I am glad to have a new friends and practice my English.

You perhaps did not notice - but this topic is more than eighteen months old and the trip was in 2016.
Regarding leaving your e-mail address -- the way this forum generally works is people post questions and answers here - not via private emails.
Though sometime in the coming months the website is changing its format. Private messages will be a feature after the conversion,
