Unfortunately there is a little truth to every stereotype but it is far better to stay open minded.

I admit that when I traveled to Paris last month I felt nervous about being an American abroad. In addition, I am 25 yrs and was a single woman traveling alone. However, the French were very kind to me and I decided that it was not necessary to 'hide' my nationality.

Here's a mantra of sorts that I hope to see a lot of...Hey, know why one quarter of all American's are fat? Because we grow most of the worlds' food, it is cheaper here than anywhere else because it is so plentiful and so fresh, we have marvelously diverse quisine and a lot of leisure time. If the rest of the world had it so good, they'd be overweight too.

its not just americans who hold hands when they walk. this iss frequently seen in italy during the evening passagiata by people ypung and old. men in other foreign countries frequently hold hands or walk whith their arm over the other persons shoulder-seen in india frequently. it just a mild expressiion of affection and caring and is not the same as 2 people trying to devour each other in public. obviously if you are in a culture that looks upon this with distain then one cans it for that time being. if anyone in europe or thereabouts doese not like my holding my wifes hand when we walk then they can look the other way and refrain from comment- frankly i do not give a good #*+*
