That should say "back to back no elimination shows". Mike
|
The other night mom and I kept screaming at the TV "SHUT UP" to Gretchen. That woman is SOOOOO annoying and HOW are they still in the race??????!!!!!!! And how does Meridith stay with her?? I'm glad for them that they made it this far - very impressive, but it is all due to dumb luck! They do the dumbest things and get lucky enough to stay in the game.
I was kind of sad to see the gay guys go - I wasn't really rooting for them, but they were enjoying the game and were pretty smart about things. I was hoping that they would be in the final 3. I was impressed with Joyce - I too had tears in my eyes when her head was shaved. Think it is kind of ironic that they were the team that did it since U is already bald... and I was afraid for them that they might not get there in first after all of it! I wish that when the teams checked in, they would post what times they arrived so you had an idea how far behind each team is - like they do at the start of the episode. I am a military brat and mom's and my jaws dropped when Kelly uttered that remark! Neither one of us are fans of either Ron or Kelly (I have been supremly unimpressed with Ron ever since he keeps bringing up his "POW status" and how he will donate the money he wins to POW charities... yeah right!), but WHAT AN IGNORANT REMARK! Beauty Queen my foot. Beyond that - almost every southern girl I have ever known from a "certain background" goes through a "finishing/beauty school" class (sometimes a weekend thing, sometimes year long) the FIRST thing they teach you to do is to walk with stuff on your head - teaches proper posture and poise while walking... ALL beauty Queens (at least down here) do it - so WHY COULDN'T SHE DO IT???? As dad says "No one said she was a GOOD beauty queen!" I am rooting for Rob and Amber to win, but would not be upset if U and Joyce win. Anyone else and I'll be highly upset! |
In Gretchen's defense:
The local resident who guided them to the elephants told her to get up there. When she figured out that she didn't have to be up there, she asked for help down and was ignored. She probably didn't feel safe climbing down on her own. Keith |
Now if only the task would have been to push a goose... (how do you get down from an elephant ba dum dum) I felt so bad as Joyce went through that, even if it wasn't the end of the world, it must have felt like it. I have to admit I thought it was funny how many times Uchenna asked her if she was sure. I kind of think he was as alarmed about her being bald as she was. He did a good job telling her she looked good after the hair started coming off. And she did! Not many could pull that off, but she looked rather regal, I thought. Nice couple, I hope they win. |
"The local resident who guided them to the elephants told her to get up there. When she figured out that she didn't have to be up there, she asked for help down and was ignored. She probably didn't feel safe climbing down on her own"
That was very kind of you to say that Keith but, if she'd screamed as loud at someone to get her down as she did for them to push and get out of the way then I'm sure someone would've got her down just to shut her the heck up. That was the longest "senior monent" I've ever seen! |
<i>"my daughter read in TV Guide that the final episode will be aired on May 10th. That means that there are three shows left as I can't imagine that there would be back to back no elination shows."</i>
And don't forget, they usually kill one week by having a "recap" show before the finale. And don't they have three teams going into the final leg? |
I can only speak for the past two seasons. In both of those, the final night was a two hour show. The first hour started with 4 teams. One was eliminated at the end of the first hour and 3 teams went into the final.

Uchenna and Joyce are the couple who have a lot of personal stuff at stake in this whole race...they both lost their jobs to other's greed (Enron, WorldCom), they have been unable to have a family of their own, and they are, to their own admission, at a crossroads in their marriage. Yet this is the couple who have shown tremendous consideration to themselves and others. I was really moved by Uchenna and Joyce's handling of the FF task, specially when she offered it in appreciation. A bigger lesson to be learned is that, is not what life hands to you, but how you handle it what makes ALL the difference. Two seasons ago, a young couple faced the same choice and their choice cost them the race (no doubt).

I'll tell you what the rumors are across AR7 Net Chat Rooms: As far as Rob and Amber, it is not a coincidence that they had helpers along the way. The rumor on the net chat rooms is that local production companies hired by CBS were instructed to have people lined up just for that purpose; the man in Peru, the lady in South Africa, the young lad in India were no coincidences whatsoever. Rob & Amber lobbied hard with CBS to have their wedding aired this coming May. The rumors are that the participation on AR7 was part of the package; the million was up for grabs, but if they happened to make it first to any of the legs, a compensation was guaranteed (remember Rob's desperation to make it first this last show??). CBS needed Rob & Amber taken all the way to the end as a segway to the airing of their wedding in Mid-May (they got married last weekend in The Bahamas). Rumor has it they were told of the first FF (remember the nice cars waiting for the winners of the FF? CBS banked that Rob and Amber had this task cleared for them). They were also informed ahead of time of the possibility of head-shaving; this possibility was apparently hinted to all the contestants. Apparently, networks are going to start doing exposes on each other's reality shows. CBS is doing an expose on "American Idol" and others will soon follow course.
The Rob/Amber deal is pretty obvious, anybody that thinks that Rob is playing such a "smart game" is clueless about the fact that, even in reality shows, NOTHING is EVER left to chance, including to who they signed a check for a million dollars. |
Amazing.

It's what I stated in one of my earlier posts, that this isn't reality at all. I just love to see the travel venues etc. though.
One of the news shows on each network is going to be an "uncover" of these "reality" shows $$$$ processes before the next few years are out. I was going to predict that in the middle of this thread but didn't want to be flamed by those who are so into the "reality" of all these shennagans. It is entertaining, but it is staged for sure. Outcomes are too, I think. There are all kinds of ways you can do that without appearing to. Kind of reminds me of the $64,000 question and other game show scams. |
One team will probably get eliminated next week, and then the stupid recap show will air on the week after next!
(didn't they just air a recap show a couple weeks ago ?!!), then the finale will air on May 10. |
Well, I've been checking out the forums on TWoP, and none of these things viajero2 talks about have ever been mentioned. As TWoP is the biggest of all these forums, if this were a widely believed rumor, then it would be being discussed there. Maybe viajero2 has inside information, in which case he/she shouldn't be posting it here as a "rumor", but these rumors he/she describes are not being discussed at all to my knowledge. Most of the stuff mentioned would be illegal.
Of course reality shows aren't real, but after they've all been "exposed", they aren't going to be fun to watch any more, are they? |
... and that would be a loss because....?
Seriously, I would miss the vicarious sight-seeing with AR; but if Romber win, it may kill some of the future ratings the way the over-hype of that couple that got together on one reality show and had their wedding broadcast. I wonder, too, whether the teams doomed to lose get compensated for keeping their mouths shut about the manipulations that HAVE to be part of the show. They certainly should, although I'd love to see an expose on any of this. |
Barbara--- you referred to the rumors I've picked on net sites as not true, because "most of the stuff mentioned would be illegal".....and exactly what about it would that be????
Talk about clueless. Yes, Barbara, go ahead and believe that everything on reality TV is absolutely real and on real time. Oh, boy.... By the way, while I don't care to say much about where/how/when, let me just share with you that I've met more than two dozens of the Survivor/AR contestants and was in the audience when Rob proposed to Amber, sitting right behind Flo....enough said, you go ahead with TWoP. |
I didn't say it was real, in fact I specifically said that it's not. BUT, we all enjoy watching or we wouldn't be either reading or posting on this thread and you're kind of spoiling it.
|
Eversince Rob and Amber have been in the Amazing Race, I've lost interest in watching the show (LIVE). I would just call up a friend and ask who was eliminated. AMAZING Race is still a good show, but for AR7, I think, the thrill has fizzled out. I don't know if the ratings would go down for the next season (AR8) but I have certainly lost my interest. But still, Amazing Race is far better than other reality shows (in my opinion).
|
Barbara-- IF you already believe the stuff you are watching isn't real, how am I spoiling it!?? Is that why you are visiting TWoP/chat rooms, because they won't??? interesting....
|
Well, Viajero, one has to ask why you feel the need to "blow the whistle" on the way these shows are manipulated. Is it that you just can't stand to see others enjoy something?
You remind me of the bitter older child who feels the need to tell the younger children that there is no Santa Claus. I don't really care what they are doing...I just enjoy the show for the soap opera that it is....but thatnks for your concern ;.) |
There's an article in the NY Times Arts section today all about the inclusion of Rob and Amber in AR7. The article concentrates on the idea that including more confrontational players has increased ratings. It mentions AR5, in which Colin "continuously sniped at his girlfirend, Christie" and the infamous AR6, when Jonathan and Victoria bereated, belittled, and shoved one another.
Phil Keoghan is quoted: "There was never as much tension at the starting line as there was when they came on the scene," speaking of Rob and Amber showing up at the starting line--apparently the other contestants were furious. Unfortunately, the article makes it sound like there will be the growing trend toward "villainy," especially since AR7 has the highest ratings ever, well above other reality series. |
