Amalfi to Ravello a different twist

Driving sickness.

Does anyone know what the ride is like from Amalfi to Ravello (would boat to Amalfi)?

A few years ago the bus ride from Sorrento to Positano was disasterous. Didn't make it any further. Actually didn't really even make it to Positano.

Is there such a thing as a taxi up or is it the bus only? Trying to avoid a bus or stop-start driving.

Would consider hellicopter. Is it possible to walk (in a reasonable time)?

I guess you get the drift. Any ideas other than skipping Ravello?

Myer - It's a fairly windy road, - like all of them around there. Taxis are available in Amalfi. It's about a 20-minute ride.

I've never walked it but that's a possibility. Ravello is about 1,000 ft. above sea-level.

Steve

Yesterday the Amalfi Coast road has been closed because of large stones on the road. Pay attention to drive if there are hard rains.

I walked Ravello to Amalfi and back. I can't remember how long it took, but I think it was more than an hour. I think there is a trail, but I walked along the road. That walk is pretty hairy in that if two cars are passing, you have to climb up on the rock railing.

I don't know what your issues are with the bus, but the ride isn't as scary as the one along the coast.

A word of warning, which I can personally attest to, don't get stuck in Ravello after 8 p.m. or so. The buses stop running as do the taxis.

It's not the scary drive but the start-stop, etc driving. Also, it isn't me.

Motion sickness pills have been tried. It's also probably to close to try something new.

May just give up.
Hi Myer,

Don't give up too soon on Ravello. The drive up in a taxi (or bus) is less frightening than the Amalfi Coast rode.

Less switch backs and less traffic. Consider giving it a try up - you can always walk back down on the trail.

Myer,
Why not take a bus from Amalfi to Minori and walk up from there? It is only a 20 minute walk and offers lovely views. The ride from Amalfi to Minori isn't too bad. Or, another alternative may be to take a taxi, negotiate the price and tell them they must drive slowly?

I just spent a week on the Amalfi coast. It is truly one of the most beautiful coastlines I have seen.

When in Ravello, make sure to go to Villa Cimbrone. Wow!

Enjoy, Myer, and good luck!
Myer: do NOT skip Ravello. It is one of the most ravishingly beautiful spots on earth. I took the bus several times up and down the hill to/from Amalfi, and had no difficulty whatsoever. The buses run every hour until about 8 or 9 p.m. Taxis are expensive (25 Euros), and not really necessary unless you have a lot of luggage. Don't drive, take the bus!

Not sure how fit you are but the people recommending the walk up from either Amalfi or Minori are obviously in good shape. Don't miss Ravello whatever you do but unless you can manage a steep, and probably hot, slog the walk up is not recommended.

A slow walk down from Ravello to Minori should be manageable - plenty of places to stop and stare at the wonderful views. The walk down to Amalfi is also good but takes longer.

Susan

Dear Myer,

Hire a private driver and sit up front with him - and do not look sideways...

That helped for me
