Amalfi Coast week before Easter
I plan to be in the Amalfi coast area ( Naples, Sorrento, Etna, etc ) the week before Easter. Does anyone have any experience or opinion about how crowded it might be?

I have been told that is should be ok until "Good Friday", then it will be very crowded.

Thanks for any info...

Samag

I was there during this period last year and it's a wonderful times to visit. There are many different Processions on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, boith day and Night. I stayed near Sorrento, and spent Good Friday on Procida where there is a fascinating procession that starts early in the morning and winds down to the harbor.
The day AFTER Easter is crowded, it's a Holiday for Italians. Don't have time to write more at the moment , but will add more information later.

Hi - lat year, I was in Sorrento on Easter Sunday, and attended Mass twice at different churches and also had a wonderful long meal AT Marina Piccola. (I did not need prior reservations)
So I don't know about Naples that particular day, except that the perception that it is "not a tourist town" is far from the truth. As a tourist, I have seen many fascinating things in Naples the 2 times I have visited. I am absolutely certain that most restaurants will be open for business that day!
I am so swamped at work today, but will try to add more information again tomorrow.

I didn't mean to imply that there was nothing to see in Naples, only that it's not the tourist mecca that, say, Venice or Florence is. Hence, my concern that everything might be shut down on that particular day. Thank you for your input, Sognatrice, and I look forward to anything more you can add. Especially if you can tell us whether there will be excursion boats running from Sorrento to Amalfi at that time. I realize the ferries or hydrofoils don't kick in until May, but I'm hoping maybe you'll know whether some other boats will be running over Easter week.
