Amalfi Coast transportation: Salerno - Amalfi
Hello! My husband and I will be staying in Atrani on the Amalfi Coast during the 2nd week of September. We plan to take the SITA bus (to save money) when we arrive...my question is about our departure. Is it easy enough to catch the bus from Atrani and head into Salerno for our departure train? Or should we splurge and opt for a private transfer? Our hotel has given us a quote for €110 for the transfer. I'm willing to pay it if catching the bus would be difficult, incredibly time-consuming, or stressful, but would prefer to save that money for something more exciting. I would love to know others' input, particularly if you have used the SITA bus. Thank you!

I'm not sure how easy or difficult it would be when you are there, but I would note that you can probably also take a ferry.
Or another (rather radical) alternative: Relocate to Salerno a day early, so that you can visit magnificent Paestum. IMO, Salerno itself is seriously underrated, and so you'd have time to see some of its treasures, too. Just a thought....

I would arrive via ferry. It is an easy 10-minute walk from the train station to the ferry dock. The ferry ride takes 35 minutes, and then it is a short taxi or walk to Atrani. The taxi rank in Amalfi is right where all the buses part, at the end of the pier.

We took the train from Naples to Paestum, stayed one night, then to Salerno for two nights, then the ferry to Amalfi, all very easy connections. Atrani is just next door to Amalfi. I would take the ferry back to Salerno if I were you, and Salerno and Paestum are definitely worth some time.

The bus is fairly easy and will drop you at the Salerno train station. The ferry is a distance away from the station so you would need to get from the port to the station. I find the buses between Amalfi and Salerno much less crowded than the buses between Amalfi and Sorrento. FYI - You are expected to put your luggage under the bus yourself usually. You might also need to remind the driver you are retrieving luggage at your stop so he doesnt pull off.
