Amalfi accommodationss
Hi, we were all set to go to Croatia in Sept with our 2 adult children but DS may not be able to make it due to a new job. Given that he was the one who was really keen on Croatia, I would rather save Croatia for a future trip hopefully and do the Amalfi coast instead which is the other option we had been considering. Fortunately all my Croatia bookings are refundable but unfortunately, none of the Hotel/villa/apartment options I had looked into are available for our dates (Sept 16-24th, with a day extra available on either side). Wanted to do 4 nights in either Positano or Amalfi and 2 nights in Capri or AnaCapri with maybe a night or two on the way back in Ravello or Sorrento.
The 4 days in Amalfi or Positano is the problem.
I absolutely must have a seaview,
but also cannot do too many stairs due to knee issues, can manage 50-100 if unavoidable! Would like to be fairly close to the town center and the ferry, maybe upto a mile/20 minute walk. Looked into Atrani as well but no luck there either. We need 2 bedrooms, 1.5 or 2 bathrooms would be preferred, air-conditioning is essential.
Soo given my long list of requirements, does anyone have any suggestions? I have looked at every option on Booking.com, vrbo.com, airbnb.com, etc; looking for recommendations for places that may not be on the common websites. Our budget is $500 per night and even though I had seen plenty of options in that price range initially, that is no longer the case! Would welcome any suggestions or links to places people may have stayed at..
Luckily I have not made any internal flight bookings within Europe yet but need to do that sooner rather than later too!
Thanks all!

Have you looked/inquired with Summer In Italy? They can be very helpful, send them your requirements. Here is one I found, but there's no info on steps. Some are quite close to a bus stop, which would help.

I just finished posting about a few of our hotels in that area. We stayed in Atrani at Eva Rooms. It is 2 flights up stairs (with a nice landing between)... so maybe that is too much. However... best view in the world!! I'm not sure they have 2 bedroom rooms, but the balconies can open up and you could rent 2 rooms next to each other with balconies connecting. Write directly to the owner (Pio) and I am sure he will let you know honestly whether it will work. I believe you could rent 2 rooms and still come in well under your nightly budget!
It's a very easy and quite level 20 minute walk into the heart of Amalfi. You walk through a bright pedestrian tunnel which is across the highway and it winds through to Amalfi! You can also walk across the highway and catch a bus into Amalfi... I think It's 2 stops. (The bus also goes south and to Ravello) The town of Atrani is great to explore... very small, but with some wonderful restaurants. We also enjoyed the little beach just below our hotel... quite a few steps down to the beach, though.
This b&b was one of the highlights of our trip. I had just injured myself in a fall runining for a Taxi in Rome, and the owner kindly met us and carried my luggage up and made everything absolutely easy for us.

I have no idea about the current prices or availability, but the views from the Parsifal in Ravello are, IMO, hard to beat, and the hotel still gets great reviews.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, had gone to Seatlle for a week over July 4th. The weather was wonderful, a welcome break from the heat wave we were having in Boston! Thank you everyone for trying to help me out!
Down Under, I agree that Pupette looked ideal, I had already emailed them and unfortunately they have no availability for our dates. They suggested Hotel Vittora but it's the same story with them!
kawh, I was very excited to hear of an option I have not heard of before. Where did you find out about Eva Rooms? Unfortunately, they also do not show any availability online, was just wondering if there may be some other B&B's that I could possibly find on the same website. Hope your fall wasn't too bad, not fun to have that happen on vacation!
I have contacted Summer in Italy and they had suggested Casa Annabella but I was a little hesitant since it is quite far from the center of town.
kja, I was planning to do Ravello for one or two nights after one night in Anacapri but really wanted Amalfi or Positano as a base for our first 4-5 nights.
So I am back to the drawing board! Any other suggestions??? Thank you all for trying!

Luna Convento, just outside Amalfi town center. MUCH closer than Atrani although I like one restaurant in Atranii and you would be able to reach it from the Luna in your stated time.

hi excited confused... I would still write to eva rooms. the owner is wonderful, and may be able to help you or put you on a waiting list. the email is in contacts on their web page. i don't remember whether it was eva rooms or settimo cielo in sorrento that i was desperate to stay at, but listed as booked everywhere. i wrote to the owner and he wrote right back and said he had a room. i was shocked. you just never know.
i found eva rooms using a method i often use. i find a fabulous hotel that i can't afford (location and view) ... look them up on TA and go to their map. then i look all around that hotel or view area on the map, which lists other hotels, until i find one i can afford. then i check them out. **did that make sense to you??
good luck with your plans! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Sooo, I just came across Hotel Pellegrino which has amazing reviews and has a suite available for our dates! Hotel sounds lovely, just not sure how much of a pain it is to have to travel from Praiano. Don't want to spend 30-40 minutes waiting for a bus to go anywhere.
Does anyone have an idea of how much taxis cost to get from Praiano to Positano and Amalfi?
And is 4 nights enough?
Thanks!

Have you booked your night in Ravello? Look at Casa di Vania. If available, gorgeous views very well within your budget and should be within your stairs budget. Right near the auditorium by Niemeyer and about a 5 minute walk to the piazza, Villa Rufolo, and the like. And the views!
I second Luna Convento -- but am shocked at the prices you are seeing.

We had thought about staying there, and it gets great reviews. I think they can help you with the bus/schedules so that you won't have to wait too long. We had seriously considered that hotel but were nervous that it is just above the highway and thought it might be a bit noisy... so please report in and let us know if you stay there!

kawh, that's great to hear! I did book there, just hope it's a better choice than the Amalfi options -

Sorry, just realized that the post with these links did not show up earlier....
Anybody have any input on that?
Now for the hotels in Capri and Ravello, debating if we should do 2 nights in each? Does 2 nights in Capri sound like too much? Seems like most people go for a day trip.
Annw, Casa di Vania sounds lovely, it only shows availability for a double room but I believe I read somewhere that an extra bed could be added, was the room big enough for that? And was it easy to get to the hotel without going up too many stair or an uphill climb? I have emailed them asking about the extra bed.
Hotel Parsifal is not available unfortunately.
Hoping for some input...

Several years ago, we enjoyed a 3 night stay on Capri. We usually travel for at least a month, so have a pretty strict budget. That led us to stay in lower Capri at Hotel Belvedere & Tre Re, which at the time was a bit run-down.... but we loved the location and the views. We could still take the funicular up to the top (as kja pointed out... lovely when less crowded in evening/night) and quite enjoyed swimming with the locals in front of our hotel in the afternoons. I love to hear the sound of the water... so we often decide between locations based on where we can find a hotel that offers a great view and sounds of water! I imagine you would want to spend 2 nights, not just 1.
