Definitely Burgundy!

2 must-sees are Epoisses (Impressive 1,000 year old fortified Medieval then Renaissance castle) and fabulous cheese (sells in the US). Also check out a local speciality: a cheese pastry called Gougere which you can buy at a boulangerie just around the corner from the entrance to the castle.

2.5 Hours drive from Paris on the Southern Motorway A6.

Other places of interest are: Semur En Auxois, Vezelay and Fontenay Abbey.

The most underrated and most beautiful part of France!

Check out these sites:

http://www.avallonet.com/epoisses/epoisses.htm

http://www.thebestgourmet.com/uk/produits/p7.html
