Well Mid Oct will be a pretty chilly in the morning with a warmer afternoon. The Vendage will over apart from the special wines. The few leaves left on the vines will be turning golden, hotels will be less full.
For me it is a bit too late. Last year I found end of Sept too chilly I like to visit this area either May/June or Early Sept.
Now the other question you might want to ask is about festivals and note that Alsace is right next to Pfalz in Germany. You will have mised the biggest wine festival in the world (Bad Durheim Wurtz Makt) but there may be others.
