They actually charge a little less to bring people out to the airport.

mike_b12, assuming you are asking about Terminal 2 of the airport, you can get there by subway + bus.
This is what I wrote on my trip report:
We took Metro Line 3 from Deak Ter to Köbánya-Kispest, which took 20 minutes. When we got off, there are signs pointing to various buses, but NO indication of which bus goes to the airport. Fortunately, per the TI, we knew we needed to catch Bus 200E, so we followed signs for that.
The bus stop (which is a stop for a total of 10 different buses) is about a 600 yard walk, and we had to take a pedestrian-bridge to get there. There are escalators UP, stairs DOWN. According to the bus schedule posted at the stop, 200E runs every 10-12 minutes, depending on time of day. We waited for 10 minutes.
The bus is fairly modern, with luggage racks. Seriously, I think we were the only non-locals doing this route! The ride is fairly long with multiple stops on the way. Terminal ONE comes first - make sure you know which terminal you need - as T1 is over a mile away from T2!!! You do not want to get off at the wrong terminal! There are at least 2 more stops between T1 and T2, with T2 being the last and final stop of the route. Terminals 1 and 2 stops are announced in English, but not the other stops on the route. While there is 2A and 2B for T2, there are connected and there is only one stop for both.
The bus ride to T2 took 25 minutes. Therefore, the entire trip from Deak Ter to T2 took 55 minutes total. If using single-ride tickets, the trip uses TWO tickets: 1 for metro, 1 for Bus 200E; for a total of 580HUF.
Would I recommend this? Yes, but only if you travel light.
If you need Termianl 1, you can reach it by the above method, or there is a direct train from Nyugati Railway Station.
Again, please note that T1 and T2 are over ONE MILE apart.

Well, if you are not on budget or don't have too much time, it's better to reach the airport with an official taxi. ZonaTaxi is one choice (the story behind is funny), but there are also reliable taxi companies (CityTaxi, 6x6 Taxi).
Going to the Airport with bus is cheap, but long. Be careful if you arrive or depart late night, the end station of Metro 3 is not the best part of the city. Look for bus 200E.
By train you can start from "Nyugati" railway station, there are several trains every hour - service level can be various, try to find a non-local train. Expect, that the train can be late up to 10-30 minutues right at the start, so if you are in hurry, go with taxi. The train is only good to Terminal 1, to Terminal 2 you should change for the bus at T1.

mike - if you click on the link above you get the prices for the shuttle and taxi by zone.
yk has stated that 2 tickets (1 metro and 1 bus) cost 580 so I would divide by 2 to get the price of 1 ticket. This should give you a good idea of the pricing to the airport.

Just to be clear, if traveling to the airport from city center by public transit, one needs TWO tickets to get to the airport. There is no free transfer between Metro and Bus, so you need one ticket for each.
580 HUF is quite cheap; less than $3 as Dick/iris1745 stated.

And your bellman most likely got a small gratuity from the cab driver. You also paid a premium because the hotel called the cab. Just the way it works there. Didn't cost you more than a couple of dollars but if you call a major company like City Taxi or Fotaxi yourself you save these costs and you pay what the meter will read.

Fancyh: Instead of tacking on to such an old thread w/ different questions, you will get better response if you start a thread of your own.
