Airfare to Spain
Greetings!

I am thinking of going to Spain for my next vacation in late May - early June. I did some preliminary check-up on airfare and discovered that the posted prices are much much higher than what you would pay in March-April. The price I was given (New York-Madrid) was in the neighborhood of $700/person. Is that a normal airfare for that period or is it just that the "discounts" haven't kicked in yet (if that's the case, when will they?).
Thank you in advance for your replies.

I purchased a ticket for June from discountairfare.com SFO-MAD; Barcelona- SFO for $823 tax, tip, out the door. You might try their website. I checked about 10 online websites and I also went to my local travel agent and this was the best fare. Good luck.

The discounts haven't kicked in - most airlines aren't even discounting their early May fares yet. Then again, they may not ever be offering very cheap fares for the time period you need. You really cannot expect under-$400 fares in May.

It's a bit of a crapshoot, but if you can stand the wait, I would keep checking until about 6-8 weeks before your departure. Try for a mid-week departure and/or return. Check British Air and KLM for discounts - they don't always show on some of the big ticket websites. Finally, try traveling from a smaller airport in your region.
