Airfare - Newark to Cologne Less Than $300

Hi. Just saw that Continental is having a fare sale on Newark to Cologne. The fare is as low as $198 plus taxes, which comes to less than $300.

I put in some dates for next April (2007) and the fare came up. Hope someone can use this fare. Good luck.

We flew to Cologne last year to take advantage of a cheap Continental fare. It was a very easy city to fly into. We stayed at the Hilton dowtown near the Dom at a great rate of $100 a night and then took the high-speed train to Brussels, our original destination. Since it saved over $1000 we didn't mind the short side-trip. You can get to many other European cities very easily from Cologe because of access to the high-speed train.

Same flights on June 6th, over $800. D'oh! I'll keep looking. Thanks for the heads-up. Made my heart beat a little faster!

Indeed, thanks, travelgirl, for the info! Took a look for May, and for a little over $350.00 all taxes and fees, I can get myself over to the city where I had my first European schooling, oh lo these many years ago (smile)

I would have been very surprised to see that kind of fare after the end of May.

Airfares are not the bargains they once were, and we will not be seeing much in the way of bargains the coming year, I don't think-but this really IS a bargain for those on the East Coast, and surprisingly, that low fare was good through May-whereupon it takes a sharp turn upwards to $1000.00 in June-slight difference there! As itsv says, use Cologne as a jumping off point to other locations-like Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels.

FYI, the downside of Continental to Cologne is that you'll be fying a Boeing 757 with double rows of three seaters.

Germanwings has a hub in Cologne, takes you to a whole lot of places real cheap.

I've never heard of Germanwings-budget carrier? If so, that sounds real interesting.

For less than $300 I think I could put up with being on a 757 which to me is no different than being in one of the three seats on a 777.

For budget flights out of Cologne you can check www.skyscanner.net

In my experience, Hapag Lloyd usually costs a lot less than Germanwings. Deutsche BA always advertises itself as the business class airline. Another airport to consider is the new & efficient Dusseldorf airport which is close to Cologne (you can easily get there by train & S Bahn).

Dukey: it's interesting that you use skyscanner instead of www.whichbudget.com. Is it better than whichbudget?

I just found out that there is a second part to this promotion.

You can also fly on Continental from Newark to Cologne for 25,000 frequent flier miles (round-trip), instead of the usual 50,000.

And, it is good throughout the summer! Lots of dates are still available too!
