QOVADIS: Have you ever had to make a claim with the insurance folks at insuremytrip.com? I've heard so much bad press about travel insurance companies that I've just never bought a policy but the more I travel I think that I should. I take it you would recommend them? Thanks

I always deal with insuremytrip.com (Access America). They have been very easy to deal with. I was hospitalized in Paris in September 2009 at Hopital Cochin for 12 days. Access America together with my own health insurance covered all my hospital expenses. On top of that, they also paid for my husband's trip to Paris so he can pick me up and all Air France extra charges for changing flights, etc.

N.B. Apparently, California residents main health coverage is your personal health insurance. The travel portion is a secondary coverage.

I use insuremytrip as a shopping tool, but go directly to the insurer for my policy... so not sure if you are buying directly through insuremytrip or if they act as an agent... I had a $60 document loss claim paid by CSA and then more substantial trip cancellation costs ($300-400ish) paid by TravelSafe.

I once had a HUGE loss, but it was covered by AccessAmerica or Travelguard, can't remember which one, but I've used both thru InsureMyTrip.
They were easy to deal with, but I had to gather all the documentation, when the "sponsor" organization suddenly folded its doors less than a week before this major study trip to Rome. It was all covered, and I have since insured every trip. DH and I are older travelers, and you never know.

I've used Travel Guard for over 20 years.
www.travelguard.com

I once had to cancel a fully prepaid and non-refundable air inclusive package tour to China just two weeks prior to departure due to a serious medical problem. TG reimbursed me quickly not only for the total air and tour cost, but also for the cost of obtaining a visa for China.

The people at their toll-free number are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. I have had no experience with any other company since I've always been so satisfied with Travel Guard and continue to use them whenever we go abroad.

(Access America) refunded my friends full airfare when he could not travel due to chemo treatments. His Doctor sent in the letter and they sent the check. It was from Orlando to Munich so around 800.00
