Air France or not?

I am planning a trip to Paris and Rome in May 2001. I want to purchase the air tickets now. The best deal seems to be with Air France. I am a little afraid to purchase tickets with a French airline since the French do love to strike! Should I take the chance?

Oh right - - and strikes are unheard of in Italy!

Short of flying Air Force One (and maybe even then), it is intrinsic to traveling to Italy that your transportation is vulnerable to strikes. You will get there, and after far too little "Dolce far niente", there will come the curse of going home - - which may or may not be the day you anticipated.

Best wishes,

Rex

I have flown AF a couple of times and have been lucky. Unmemorable flights, which I guess means nothing too bad happened. Regarding strikes, it seems like you just have to take your chances. Anyone remember American Airlines 1999 or this years United fiasco? In my experience it's more often rail transports that strike. Anyway, have a great trip regardless.

I flew AF to Paris from Atlanta and return in September. We had a new Boeing 777 both ways between Paris and Atlanta. (The flights were "true" Air France.) Nothing remarkable about the flights. I will say this however: I am 6'1", about 180 pounds, and the seat was cramped as hell. Very uncomfortable.
Seating in cattle class is 3 - 3 - 3 in the AF configuration.
I really think the middle section is better because no one has to crawl over two people to get out for anything.
As it was, we had an aisle and a middle on the side. So the person in the window seat had to climb over both of us. And the seating is so tight that I could not get up if the seat ahead of me was reclined. Beastly conditions to be blunt about it.
Unfortunately, beastly, cramped, and uncomfortable is the norm in cattle class.
Bob, wan't that just a peachy configuration....when I made my AF reservations they told me it was the 3-3-3...I almost croaked! I immediatley asked for aisle and aisle(across from each other). It seemed the best alternative to the seat from hell---the window seat!!!! I did not mind the seats however(I am petite, little thing HA!) I did like the foot rests though. IMHO, I think for once the middle was the place to be in a 777, don't you!?

Hi AJ, cattle caars are always crowded and uncomfortable, however I did have more leg room on Air France going over than I did on Lufthansa coming back. I will say that the best meals I've ever had in the cattle car were on Air France. Good luck and great trip.
