I love the Rue Cler area, or less specifically, the 7me arrondissement. It's elegant, quiet at night, and full of great cafés and restaurants, antique stores, food shops, and interesting characters. I think it's great that Rick agrees with me.

I also like the Marais and Ile St-Louis. Parts of St-Germain are lovely; others too busy and commercial for my taste. I like some corners of Montmartre as well. The Latin Quarter, for all its historical interest, is way down on my list. I take one walk through it every time I'm in Paris (mainly to check out Gibert-Jeune), but that's all I can take.

I stayed in the Rue Cler neighborhood once, back in 1994. While I liked the area itself, especially Rue Cler, it seemed too far away from most places I was interested in.

I much prefer St.Germain, the Latin Quarter, or the Marais for being in what I consider to be the "heart" of Paris.

I loved Ile St. Louis where I stayed for two weeks in a apartment.
The Marais was mysecond choice.
St germaine was nice but expensive but
Luxembourg Park is near and beautiful.
The Latin Quarter is ok but very touristy but does have tons of restaurants and night life.
I went up the Eiffel but did not go to Rue Cler which is near by.
