Age restriction on car rental

This is a fairly new and quickly changing issue. It still may depend upon the rental agency, but last I knew there was not a maximum age in Italy -- although I know there is in Spain, Greece, and Ireland for a few. One way around it is, if you are renting for 17 days or more, you can rent a new Peugeot through Auto France. They do not have a maximum age at all. Although you used to have to pick up in France, you can now pick up a car from them in Milan at the airport ($40 extra charge for either pick-up or drop-off). They also allow you to do this at Rome airport, but I think the extra fee is around $200. Their 17 day rentals range from $489 for a brand new Peugeot 106 up. All their rates include all insurance (even a no-deductible on collision) and no taxes. These rentals are only available to those outside Europe (it's set up as a sale to avoid VAT tax and enabling them to resell that car after you use it as a used car without VAT Tax.)

Derek,
To augment Patrick's suggestions, check the website www.ideamerge.com/motoeuropa where you can get information on Renault's lease arrangements.

Patrick:
What are the age restrictions for car rentals in Spain & Ireland?
Also, do you know if it's true that they're going to start driving on the right in Ireland in a year or so? (Read this once on the Forum but haven't seen anything since.)
