age limit to go into pubs?

Family travelling in England and Ireland in June with 2 children ages 11 and 13. Will they be allowed in pubs in those 2 countries?

I think the answer is generally no, unless the pub has a separate dining area. I remember having our 11 year old with us in England (now he's 22) and it was a real pain. The age in England for sure is 18 to drink inthe pubs and I think also to enter. Sorry to be the bearer of that answer.

actually, most pubs will allow you in with children during the day. it used to be that a child could even go into a pub alone at the age of 12 to purchase a soft drink. you could probably get away with taking a child into a pub in the evening but it is less likely than during the day. most pub owners set their own rules so ask first. good luck.

Can only speak for united Kingdom and not for Eire.
In UK it depends on type of licence the pub concerned has gained. Some are family pubs where childeren are welcome.. even bouncy castles etc etc!
These tend to be pubs where food is an important part of the operation.

As it is very difficult to know when you just turn up..when in UK buy some thing like "the good pub guide" which will often say if children are welcome.
If you can't find this it is a good idea to enquire at a local toursit office.

Places like Berni Inns are restaurants with a pub bit.. these are often a good bet when children are concerned.

Most pubs in England will allow your children in as long as they are accompanied by you. However some pubs are more welcoming than others and you may be expected to sit away from the bar area. If you are having a meal there shound be no problem.
