After Paris re do

Going to Paris for new years for one week. Where to go after that. Have nine days to go anywhere we want.(wife and I). Have been to Munich, Venice and London all after Paris and that was too much traveling all in a nine day time frame. Thought of Provence but some say this is wrong time of year to go. Any thoughts????

Probably not the best time of year to be in Provence but unless you are comparing it to the tropics, Provence still has things to offer. Arles, Avignon, St. Remy, Les Beaux(?), Pont du Gard etc., will still provide enjoyment, and the natives don't hibernate. Of course it is always warmer at the Cote D'Azur. A different experience but you can combine both rather easily.

Try Aigues-Mortes in the south of France. Really a fun area.

How about Spain? Haven't been there yet, but I imagine it's warmer than any other place that time of year. I'm just guessing that you're looking for someplace warm. Also the French riveria (Nice, etc)

The first time I "did Provence" was between Xmas and NYs, '89-'90. It was fine, cool but not cold. Of course, you're missing the lavender fields, but there are interesting Santon exhibits not available in summer, eg. There were still outdoor markets; I'll never forget one poor little piggy shivering in the cold in his cage at the Arles market. And the Pont du Gard and other sites from antiquity look the same in winter as summer, with fewer crowds. I think Provence would make a nice contrast from your week in Paris.
