Affordable Housing in London
Ok, some say it is impossible, and I have heard from others that it is possible.....can a person find a studio or 1 bedroom flat in London for under 800 dollars a month? Or under 400 pounds a month?

Not for a month unless you share w/ 2 or 3 room mates.
Holiday rental flats s will run a very minimum of about £25 per night. And those won't be in central London. For anywhere w/i zones 1, 2 or 3 count on a minimum of about £300 per week.
Longer term rentals can be a bit cheaper - but usually will have a 6 month term or more.

I will assume that as you have "housing" in the title, you are not talking about just a holiday let.
However, I think you'd be looking at a very grotty studio miles out from the centre for that sort of price. Usualy range would be around the 180-250 per week mark for the average studio in Central London I believe.
How long do you intend staying for?

You can't even get a 1 bedroom flat in Edinburgh for £400 a month - and Edinburgh prices aren't as insane (barely) as London.
Try looking at www.thegumtree.com to get some idea of what a ROOM costs per month.
they do have bedsits (think studio BUT the bathroom is shared & extremely grotty) from £110pw - which presumably doesn't include electric, gas or council tax bills
