Aer Lingus
Hi to all>I haven't flown Aer Lingus in a couple of years.Can we now bring mp3 players or is it still the old cassette tape rule only?Do they still allow you you to bring a dufle/shopping bag aboard with purchases made while in Ireland..not just at the Duty Free?How about the Duty Free?Is it still basically the same?Thanks for any input.

We flew Aer Lingus out of Dublin to US recently. There was a woman boarding ahead of us who had a huge paper shopping bag and a suitcase. The bag burst apart as she advanced, and the employees at the gate just kind of helped her bundle everything aboard.

alanRow,
In this case it's the airline. AerLingus had and maybe still has a rule against usung any digital devices, including but not limited to MP3 players, laptops with DVD players, etc.
The OP should check www.aerlingus.com for more info.

I just took a quick look and it seems like they did relax some of the rules:
Use of the following is forbidden on all flights:
* Walkie-talkies, Remote controlled toys
* Display units with cathode ray tubes
* Wireless PC equipment, PC printers
* DVD, CD writers and mini-disk recorders
* TV receivers, Telemetric equipment
* Bluetooth devices and 'Blackberry' technology
* Wireless LAN
but the rest is allowed:
Permitted inflight, but not during take-off, approach and landing:
* Palm organisers
* Portable DVD players
* Portable audio equipment
(e.g. Walkman, CD player, mini disk player, iPOD,and MP3 player)
* Handheld computer games (e.g. Gameboy)
* Video cameras, Digital cameras, GPS handheld receivers
* Electric shavers, Electric toys (excluding remote controlled)

Chezzle,
I flew Aer Lingus last month. I brought on my IPOD without any problem. We travel only with carry-ons and had no problem. I carried on my carry on bag and a large purse; my husband carried on his bag and a small backpack. Personnel at LAX did not even check them, although Dublin did.
You can still purchase items at the Duty Free in Dublin and they will be given to you as you board the plane. A word of caution however if you are connecting - you might not be able to bring on your Duty Free purchases. We had to pack ours once we arrived at LAX before we could connect.

probably a question without a specific answer, but do any of you know what size the personal item can be on Aer Lingus, or is that size also determined by the airport? I hope to fly with only my carry-on and purse, and am wondering how large my purse can be.

I don't think there is a specific answer but I travelled with just a carry on and a very large soft sided purse that I bought at REI specifically to carry on. No one stopped me to measure or weigh. I'm not sure of the dimensions of my purse but to give you some idea, it was large enough to fit three guidebooks, an extra pair of shoes and quite a bit more.
Hope this helps.
