Advice on USAir ticket & layover in Philly?
Hi everyone - I know there's no one concrete answer, but I'm looking for feedback on this. For our trip to the UK and Ireland in May, I scheduled a 1:15pm flight from Nashville to Philadelphia, arriving at 4:14 and giving us a four-hour layover before an 8:30 flight to Manchester. I was OK with the long layover after a rough experience getting from Nashville to the UK last fall.
Well, this afternoon I checked our reservation just out of curiosity and discovered that they put us on a 3:25 flight out of Nashville instead, giving us only a two-hour layover. After almost 24 minutes on the phone with customer service, it looks like our options are: a) Take this flight, which makes me nervous if we have any weather delays, etc. b) Rebook (they say at no cost) on a 12:45 flight to Philly via Charlotte, which they claim does not change planes and will get us to Philly at 5:19 for a three-hour layover. Obviously, the downside is a two-hour flight now becomes a 3.5-hour flight with a stop.
Am I being ridiculously paranoid, or should we change flights? Thanks for all reassurances either way.

Two hours is probably fine, going through PHL. You could check your flight's progress through the morning. It undoubtedly is originating somewhere other than Nashville, and you can be on top of the ETA in Nashville. If things look "iffy", just head out early to the airport in time to stand-by for the 12:45 flight.

The best option is to arrive the day ahead, last flight of the day and relax in Philly before your flight. Two hours is okay, but if you catch a delay, you will not make your connection. If you are flying Northwest to Philly it is a hike to the international terminal with re-screening to re-enter the terminal. I know what I am talking about, I fly out of Philly everyweek.

So I'm confused - you have to go through security again if you're catching an flight overseas? I'm not exactly a seasoned traveler, but I've never heard that. Last fall we just had to go through customs on the way back from the UK, not to. We're flying USAirways, not Northwest.
kayd - we have four hours on the way back, so we should be OK.

on your flight to Philly, If you are on USAir you are fine. You will be arriving in terminal B/C and will not have to re-enter security. If you were on NW and arrive at terminal E, you exit security and have to re-enter at terminal D. The flights you listed are fine, either one should give you plenty of time.

You can check your original flight's on time record on the US Air website.
We changed to an earlier flight to PHL after noticing that on 5 out of 7 days it arrived after our flight to Europe had left.It was to be a 2 hour layover.

The on-time record just says N/A - which makes me even more nervous, frankly. And after looking at the PHL terminal map, it looks like Dukey is right. I'm leaning towards at least looking into an earlier flight. It may depend on how much they charge us to change it, as we're on a budget. Thanks for your input, everyone! Argh!
