Advice on food in UK
We love traveling in the UK but have a problem at meal times. Both my husband & I have "touchy" stomachs, particularly when traveling & we have a difficult time trying to find something to eat besides scrambled eggs & baked potatoes. Also, we don't eat red meat, which kind of complicates the matter even more. Any suggestions on a good meal item and/or types of restaurants (variety isn't necessary)to keep us going? No ethnic foods please - can't do that while traveling either. Are we boring or what?

Almost every restaurant in the UK (except vegetarian ones) have many fish, shellfish and poultry entrees. Not eating red meat should not be a problem. When you add in the vegetarian/vegan, Chinese, fish & chip shops, etc., I think you haven't looked very far for places to eat. To say you have been limited to jacket potatoes and eggs is simply ludicrous.

Since the Mad Cow disease and hoof-and-mouth outbreaks, most restaurants in the UK have changed their menus to cater to those who have cut red meat from their diet. You shouldn't have a problem. Wagamama's is a noodle restaurant, serving all sorts of noodle dishes. While fish and chips may be too fried for your stomachs, Pret a Manger is a sandwich food chain that should have digestible fare just about anywhere

What do you order when you eat out at home? I cannot imagine you can cannot find those same foods on menus in London.<BR>Chicken dishes, broiled or grilled seafood, vegetables, various kinds of soup, rice, and more are certainly available in London.

As a vegetarian, I've always had good luck travelling in the UK and finding excellent choices for dishes that don't include red meat. Try the green salads with goat cheese or a cheddar and chutney sandwich. (Unless dairy is an issue). Usually you can find a veg soup on the menu that works well for a touchy stomach. Alternately, you can stop at a Waitrose or M & S and find a great selection of take-out. Skip the full breakfast at B&Bs if you are burnt-out on eggs - usually there is a nice selection of cereals, yogurt and fruit.
