My recollection of the TGV station at Avignon is that it was in the middle of nowhere, pretty much. Also consider staying close to Avignon central station and take a quick ride to the TGV station. That would give you more choices and a more pleasant evening.

For example, next Friday the first train from Centre to TGV is at 05:58 and takes 6minutes. Would that be early enough?

ps. We stayed here http://www.hotel-boquier.com/ and it was fine - not luxurious but very convenient, pleasant hosts and good breakfast.

There are a pair of Ibis hotels on boulevard St Dominique about half way between the old Centre rail station and the TGV station. But you can stay anywhere in central Avignon and take a taxi in 15 minutes.

There's also a shuttle bus that leaves across from the Central Gare train station parking lot in Avignon and goes to the TGV station. Only takes maybe 10 minutes and costs a euro or so.

Just another option if you end up staying the night in Avignon.

Actually, the shuttle bus was discontinued in January when the new train shuttle began service.

I believe the shuttle fare is now included in ticket fares to Avignon TGV.
