Accomodations in Chianti area

My husband and I will be visiting Italy this summer (his first time, my 15th time - I'm Italian) and we were interested in visiting the Tuscany area and Pisa. Can anyone recommend an agriturismo in the Chianti area? We were planning on doing a day trip to Florence, a day trip to Pisa, a day trip to Sienna, a day or two of touring the wine regions in a car and then a couple days of relaxation before we headed north to be with my extended family. We thought the Chianti region seemed to be a pretty good base for the areas we wanted to visit?

My husband and I stayed at the agriturismo Collelungo for one week
last October. It is perfectly situated
for visiting Tuscany and is just a short
drive to the village of Castellina where
you can do your shopping and enjoy great
restaurants. One of our all time favorite restaurants, Gallopapa, is in
Castellina. From Collelungo, we visited
Siena, San Gimignano, Montalcino, Pienza, Volterra, Monteriggioni, Lucca,
and other cities in the Chianti region.
Last October we stayed at Fattoria del Colle agriturismo near the town of Trequanda which is near Singaluga which is about 30 min. off the autostrada. We met the nicest people trying to find this place late one Sun. evening but that's another story...
www.cinellicolombini.it (you won't be sorry)

Hi Fracchi,

If you are not 100% decided on an agritourismo, I hihgly recommend the Residence San Sano, 20 minutes drive north of Siena near Gaiole and Castello di Brolio. On our last 3 week trip, we voted it the most perfect overall place we stayed. It's a 3 star in a tiny, tiny village on a hill (of course) surrounded by olive groves and vineyards, lovely pool. Great family run trattoria in the village. I was just checking out their new web site and it looks like it's pretty much the same as when we visited 3 yrs ago. www.sansanohotel.it

We loved Chianti, but did find the driving times to be long due to the very windy roads. We did day trips to San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena, Greve and a wonderful lunch a La Badi di Coltibuono where the San Sano owners made our reservations for us.

Buon viaggio!

hello fracchi-
check out totuscany.com for private houses/apts for 2 and more.
My husband and I are staying in LA CASETTA in CAstellina, in May. (accommodates 6 people, thru totuscany.com). Length of stay is from sat to sat or thurs to thurs.
Per multiple feedbacks from other travelers, Castellina is a great home base to visit Siena, Pisa, Florence, San Gimignano, Chianti, Cortona and Assisi. You can also try slowtrav.com and slowtalk.com for extensive information on Italy. Private houses with pool are very reasonable and just beautiful .
