Accomodation Toledo

We are requiring accom. in Toledo for one night for a family of five. We will be arriving by car from Madrid around 18:00. We are looking for reasonbly priced rooms, does anyone have a suggestion or personal experience? Will it be necessary to pre-book.

I recently stayed at the Hostal del Cardenal. It is at the city walls, near a car park. I had a suite with a balcony. (Bedroom and sitting room). I am not sure if the sitting room sofa opened to a bed. The hotel, room and bath were very nice. The balcony overlooked the hotel's beautiful courtyard gardens. Even though it is built at the city walls, it is easy to get to the center of Toledo, either walking or taking the escalator. It was abut 130 euros a night. I would highly recommend it.

I forgot to mention that I drove to Toledo directly from Barajas. You do not have to drive in Toledo. In fact, I returned the car in Toledo and took an express bus to Madrid.

Another vote for Hostal del Cardenal. And a bonus is that their wonderful restaurant is an "outpost" of the famous Botin in Madrid -- excellent!

Three cheers for Hostel Cardenal! Very lovely hotel, super location (especially once we found the escalator). We had just landed in Madrid and drove straight to Toledo, only to find our confirmed reservation was for the wrong month (not enough double-checking on my part)--which put us in the wrong season, so rates should have gone way up. But the guy was so very nice. He not only gave us his last room but also the rates we had booked for the wrong month! Such hospitality. You have to try their restaurant. My husband had the Spanish favorite, roasted pig -- and I mean you get the whole baby pig. Quite an adventure in eating--delicious!! Also, in town, you'll enjoy seeing all the armor. I heard that's where our military academies get the swords they give to each graduate. Quite beautiful and ornate. Happy travels!

I wouldn't stay outide the city walls. Pintor El Greco is a better choice. Very short walk to everything.

Pintor el Greco was my original first choice when staying in Toledo. It came highly recommended from a friend who spends alot of time in Toledo. I originally eliminated Hostal del Cardenal as a choice since it was not within the city walls. She had stayed at Hostal del Cardendal but did not like their "attitude". Comments on Tripadvisor convinced me to change to Hostel del Cardenal. While it is not within the city walls, it is part of them, with very easy access. Not quite as convenient as Pintor.

Either is a good choice, but I would go with Hostal del Cardenal. It is also easier to access if you are coming into Toledo by car. Have a great trip.

I also found the staff at Pintor El Greco not the best. But to tell the truth, how much time do actually spend dealing with staff at a hotel? In any event, Spain is not the place to go if such things matter to you greatly. It is not one of the friendlier countries
