As noted above, I might start with a search here. Almost daily there are threads with manu suggestions.
You will need to determine your budget. If you are from Little Town USA, the cost of hotels may seem exhorbitant, if from Manhattan, normal. If would think that 125+ euro wojuld be a good starting point.
You can also use Priceline to bid on hotels, and there are threads here (and other sites) that will help you through the process.
Location wise, while Paris is well served by iots public transit system, I would suggest staying in the lower # districts (arrondissements), say from #1-#6.
