Accommodation in Italy
My girlfriend and I (both 21) will be finishing up a 5-week long European trip with two weeks in Italy. The plan is to spend 2 nights in Cinque Terre, 6 nights in Rome, 2 nights in Florence, and 3 in Venice.
Compared with the rest of our trip, we don't know much about neighborhoods and the best places to stay in each location. Since we're both students our budget isn't that big -- probably about 30-45 US$ a night each -- so we're probably looking at hostels, or budget hotels and BnBs. We're into museums, markets, exploring on foot and food.

I can recommend Hotel Papa Germano a few blocks from Termini. The rooms will be small but very clean.
Check Let's Go Italy for other inexpensive accommodations.

You should consider staying in a monastery or convent - they are safe, well located and value for money - You'll need separate rooms however! Most do have single rooms. Have a look at www.monasterystays.com which has a wide variety of places in the cities you want to visit. You can book on-line

What time of year are you travelling? This will have a bearing on the room prices - ie high season vs low season. If it's Summer, then you'll be paying the higher price bracket, so keep that in mind for your budget.
Rome - 6 nights might warrant an apartment, but if you would rather a hotel/hostel, then try The Beehive (has double rooms as well as dorms and then rooms and apartments in other locations). It's near Termini.
Florence - try Hotel Scoti (a Pensione near the main station of Firenze SMN) or Hotel Dali (behind the Duomo; not luxurious, but people who run it are lovely). There are also quite a few properties within walking distance of the station, between it and the Mercato Centrale (central market), try Hotel Villa Fiorita.
Venice - Hotel Bernadi (in Cannareggio district, easy walk to Rialto, etc) or B&B Rota (not sure if it's still going, but worth a search) or Aloggi Gerotto Calderan (small but decent, near train station) or check some other properties around Piazzale Rome and the train station as they will be more in your budget for Venice.
CT - which town are you looking at staying in? Monterosso is probably going to fit your budget best, but it would help to know which ones you're thinking of staying in.
