We booked some of our accommodations through www.venere.com, some through Travelocity, and others directly with the hotel.

For a translation, type your page's URL into the "Translate a web page" space at:
http://babelfish.altavista.com/
Then check "From German to English. The translation may not be exact, but you'll probably find it helpful.

Try doing www.(town you want).de and see if you come up with the local tourist authority. When staying in Germany late last year, I found this worked for several towns we wanted to stay in, e.g www.rothenburg.de. They had English translations and had accommodation lists and links of everything from hotels down to zimmers. Tripadvisor is always good to check on what others thought of the place you are considering. All the towns we were visiting were in the Bavaria region, I don't know how well this will work elsewhere in Germany.
