Accomadations in Scotland

I'll be traveling in Scotland for a week at the end of March. I plan on driving around to see the highlites. I'd like to stay in B&B's. Do I need to make reservations or can I just find something when I get to my destination?

At the end of March there is no need to book ahead, things are very quiet.
Better to wait until you find a place that takes your fancy, watch for B&B signs.
Some people may not even have started doing B&B at that time.Tends to be very quiet until after Easter. In fact many hotels offer deals then - not as personal as a B&B though.
Expect mixed weather, take waterproofs & woolies.
Have you decided on a route?
Prefer town/country/both?

We prefer both but lean toward country. Out route so far is: Glasgow to Edinburgh, then to Iverness across the highlands towards Skye then back into Glasgow. Any suggestions of places along the way?

Hi, I am probably not qualified to answer your question but I can offer this. I booked over the net and by phone a one night stay in Glasgow for March 16 at the Kirklee Guest House. From what I could find out it is located about two miles from downtown and the cost will be 48 pounds. If you want to check it out just type in the name of the hotel and you should get details.

I have a good suggestion if you want to keep your itinerary loose. If you get to a town you want to stay at, go to the Tourist Information Center (TIC)(follow the "I" signs, it will be near town center, or centre as it is written there). They will, for a very modest fee, find a B&B for you. You pay them and they reimburse the B&B. They also give you a map to the place. I've done this many times and NEVER been disappointed. Larger TICs have a "book a bed ahead" service. If you are in, say, Edinburgh, and decide that today you want to spend tomorrow night in Sterling, they will find you a place in Sterling that fits your requirements. I think the service costs 2 pounds sterling. Again, both services are very handy, you only get quality establishments (within your price range), and it lets you keep your itinerary loose. If you wish, please feel free to e-mail me for any additional questions.
