my guess is that those of us who access at work do it at lunch, on a well-deserved break, and that we work plenty ( hours-in-service wise)---a visit to a travel website once a day sure makes the work day brighter!!!!!i love taking trips vicariously and once in awhile helping someone out with a suggestion. if they ever block me i will be plenty upset!!

I always post on Fodors whilst I am at work. My employer would never dream of blocking access to this site. That would be a very un-gentlemanly thing to do. They don't even care if I take a three-hour lunch to go pick up my dry cleaning. My secretary visits the QVC website whilst she is working and orders clothing from JCrew.com and I couldn't care less. Some of you need a valium with a gin chaser. Blimey.

How odd that so many of you complain about how others spend their time while making a living. How pedestrian, how do
you qualify to judge how someone utilizes their time?
In my office we have down time between projects so we do what we want
with the time, then when it is time to work we do so and do it well. Why would a career take all of your mind all of the time.
Other times, I click on Fodors when I am holding on the phone or waiting for my computer to print what I have just spent hours creating.
It is a shame some of you have such small minds and on a travel site at that!

Natalia and others: I think you're missing the basic point here. It doesn't make ANY difference what the rest of us think about how some people spend their time at work. But since the powers that be have cut access to certain sites, it seems pretty clear to me that THEY are not happy about how time is being spent in that particular workplace or they wouldn't have gone to the trouble to take action. And as the BOSSES, they certainly have every reason to block access if they feel it is interferring with work somehow. Apparently THEY do.

What prompted this thread was not simply asking or telling what other people think about how time is spent in a workplace. It was a post complaining because a business saw fit to cut access due to what was apparently perceived as a problem. I think the general reactions have been just what would be expected. No, no one has said, "That's outrageous. You should be allowed to do whatever you want at work and the firm shouldn't be allowed to try to control productivity." Is that what you would have expected?

I suspect that those who are at work, read the rest of us here, have a good laugh and add to our enjoyment and then...back to their work with a more relaxed attitude,.... not bad, I'd say.

I post from work, as well. However, I'm able to multi-task, and therefore fullfill my job responsibilities, as well as post on Fodors.

I do try to be discreet about it, though.

Guess I opened a can of worms. I was merely stating a fact -- that I can't open Fodors at work anymore. The company was blocking porn sites and chat rooms -- company does not care if you go to sites that are inoffensive to others. I find it odd that Fodors would be considered in the same league as a porn site as far as access. The company does not care at all if we use the internet on our down time, on lunch or breaks - they just don't want "inappropriate" sites visited. Chill out, folks.

Boy, do I remember my life in corporate. I refer to that period as "the slave days." Even though I loved every job I've had through the years, the corporate one gave me an ulcer. I learned the hard way that no boss or company is worth too much sacrifice. I think wesley said it best, life is too short.

I HAVE to use Fodors for my job! I work in a travel related field and use Fodors on an almost daily basis to answer questions for my clients so no chance they'd block me here!
Plus, I have a very, very cool boss who dosen't care what I do as long as my work is done and I'm booking vacations!!

Hey--I like to post first thing in the morning because so many seasoned travelers here look us up at work. If my post disappears overnight, I bring it back up for the day crowd. It stands to reason that you must be doing your job well or how else could you afford to travel?!

I read Fodors and post at work, but it is not like I am on an assembly line where I can't stop for a minute (I picture the conveyor belt with chocolates that Lucy and Ethel have to box).

I think we are all reasonable enough to know when to do our work and when we can look at Fodors on the job.
