Accademia or Uffizi - one day in Florence. Read more..
Hi! Traveling to Florence - only have one day to sightsee. Don't have tickets for Uffizi or Accademia. Arrive at train station at 9:30 - go to hotel near Duomo. Which do you think I'll have a better chance getting into without tickets at approx. 11:30 am, Uffizi or Accademia? TIA! gt;

Are you leaving tomorrow or something? If not, why don't you just book your tickets right now? (or, actually, wait until business hours in Italy to call). Why would you want to waste your precious hours in Florence waiting in line?
With reservations, we saw the Academia, then the Medici Chapel, then ate lunch, then saw Santa Maria Novella church, then San Lorenzo church, then did a bit of shopping in the stalls, had gelato while seeing the Piazza della Signoria, then made our 4 pm reservations at the Uffizi. There was plenty of time for all of that on one day. Why would you limit your options by not making reservations?

We probably spent about an hour at the Academia. We were probably at the Uffizi for about 2 hours and 15 minutes; there is a lot in the Uffizi that we zipped by, but it was the end of the day and we had three kids. We took the walking tour from the Rick Steves Florence book. He pretty much concentrates on one painting per room.

Hi d,
Uffizi and Academia Museum Reservations
The easiest and cheapest way is to call Florence 1016868 (dial around number), 011 (U.S. international access code) 39 (Italy's country code) then 055-294-883 8:30-18:30 M-F and 8:30-12:00 Sat. Florence time. You will get an English speaking operator and in 2-3 minutes YOU CAN RESERVE FOR BOTH. This is through the reservation service at the Uffizi and costs beyond the normal entry fee only about 3 euro for the service. This is MUCH cheaper than the commercial booking services.
You will not be charged for the reservations unless you use them.

I just made reservations a few days ago, by calling the number that Ira posted. Seriously it was very easy and took less than 2 minutes.
I leave in 5 weeks and did not want to do any waiting in line, especially since I don't have to.
This board and the people who give their expert advice so freely are wonderful!
