This has to be a joke. Right? How much space do vitamins take? If you´re flying cross-atlantic you´re allowed two pieces of luggage per person and that´s a lot. Vitamins? Vitamin V? Not even that is that heavy. Besides you can get everything over here. It might be more expensive, but you still can get it, if you really need those pills.

Helsinki, vitamins do take up space and are heavy - from my experience.
Lois, I'd find multi-vitamins which have all the ingredients you need - lutein, Ca, vit. D, B, whatever you take - and take several of them during the day to keep approximate mg quality. Bring 1 or 2 bottles as needed.
You can lower the dosage for a while, maybe?

We pack our vitamins, etc., in the small jewelry size ziplocs - one pkg. per day. They are so handy - can put one pkg. in purse or pocket each day. This is the best method I have ever found for packing pills. Also, put other over-the-counter pills in these little ziplocs - any and all - tylenol, sudafed, imodium, etc. Each kind in its own little ziploc. I write the name of the medication and instructions (one every four hours)on the outside of the bag. Saves so much room! I have told all my traveling friends, and they all do this now too - and love it! It saves so much space. Then I put the little pkgs. in a larger ziploc - snack or sandwich size. I buy these little tiny bags at Hobby Lobby - probably can get them at any craft store. Have also seen a heavier version at drug stores - much more expensive.

I'm still working on the statement that the calcium pills alone weigh a ton.
Even better than the little ziplocks to me are the weekly "pill minder" containers. They come in several sizes depending on how many pills you need in each compartment. But you count out a whole week's worth in each daily compartment. Saves opening, searching, and counting day by day. Best of all, you don't have to think twice, "now did I take my pills yet today?" If it's Monday and there are pills in the Monday box, you know you didn't.

Totally agree with GSteed. Dean Edell, SF media MD, says research supports the fact that vitamins, other than those in the foods we consume, can be detrimental, even contributing to the rapid growth of cancerous cells. Leave the vitamins at home and lighten your luggage!
