A Welsh Christmas
My 19 year old daughter would like us to spend next Christmas in Wales. I know she loves beautiful countryside and quaint villages as well as country cottages. Where can I get the best of those things all together. I would like to rent a cottage within walking distance of shops, pubs etc. I have already landed on Barmouth and St. Davids can anyone else think of other places that fit the bill?

Thanks Carol

I can suggest the Gower or anywhere in Pembrokeshire. Check out the area around Cardigan. This is where I spend my Xmas with my parents. Great coast line, and lots of events through Xmas week. It is a real tonic to the modern commercialised Xmas season. Lot of Pubs with open fires and church services in Welsh for added atmosphere.

Hi Carol!!

Oh, that sounds like a wonderful idea!!!

For the cottage you could take a look at Premier Cottages Direct at
http://www.premiercottages.co.uk/

I have used them a few times and stayed at one of their listed cottages,Tan-Y-Rhiw, in Snowdonia in Sept 2000. The owner of the place, Carol, is a doll and was very helpful. The cottage itself is in the town of LLanbedr(sp?) and is just a few minutes from the town of Harlech where there is a great castle to visit as well as places to eat and shop!!!! Also nearby is Shell Island!!!!

This coming May I will again stay in one of their listed properties, Neuadd Farm Cottages, Llwyndafydd, Nr. New Quay, Cardiganshire!!!!

Carol, my family live in a hamlet called Llangoedmor, 2 miles outside of Cardigan. The area is very Welsh with almost 90% speaking it as a first language. If you do your research you can explore ancient churches, learn about the myths and relay get the feel of the ancient landscape. I find the area very relaxing as its not on the tourist map as such and at Xmas you will have the beaches all to yourselves. Dont call the area Cardiganshire! its in the ancient kingdom of Ceredigion. I will post some places of interest on this tread as I can (Im at work now .

Gareth - You welcome American tourists to bring in foreign money. Are you one of those Welsh people who don't like money coming in from English-speaking Brits, ie. non-Welsh? In the papers the other day there was the story about Welsh speakers protesting at the number of non-Welsh speakers moving in and buying property. I wouldn't want anyone to get a one-sided view of what it means to be Welsh.

To xx ([email protected]) what the hell are you on about? I'm live in London and was borne in Leeds to Welsh parents and enjoy Xmas in Wales. Looking back on my post I seen to be telling Carol about Cardigan not trying to drum up support for the Sons of Glyndwr.
