BTW: The 800 years old Glurns, the smallest entirely walled city of Europe (800 inhabitants) lies just a few miles from the famous Müstair monastery. Both can be reached every hr by Swiss Post bus from Zernez in Engiadina Bassa)

neckervd and Adelaidean, danke schon.

Has anyone also hiked in or around Arosa? Also looking at it as a possibility in addition to the Engadine.

Here it is, post #56, Oct 4. Nice walk. Lots of nice hikes from nearby Lenzerheide too.

Getting High in Switzerland (and a wee bit of Italy)

Melnq8, thank you. Architecture aside, the mountains makes me think of New Zealand, which I know we both love.

Arosa is far away from any glacier, but there are nice hiking possibilities too.
Personally, I prefer Engadin by far.

neckervd, thank you. I'm looking at Arosa in addition to Engadine, not in lieu of.

Continuing our research, the two viewpoints in the Engadine seem to be Piz Nair and Corvatsch (the Engadine equivalent of the Schilthorn so to speak) - is this a fair representation? Is one more worthwhile than the other?

I mst admit that I don't understand your question, as I recall quite a few places in the Engadine that offer stunning views. As just one example, Muottas Muralg, mentioned several times in this thread, provides some glorious views:

And IMO, there are some amazing vistas in the Lower Engadin, too.

Not to mention from Mustair or the Val Bregaglia....

kja and neckervd, thank you. We will need to settle for a handful of highlights. Wish we would have 2 weeks just for the Engadine.

How does Swiss National Park compare to the other gorgeous vistas you've shared?

The Swiss National Park is a aera of 170 km2 where absolutely no human intervention (roads, restaurants, camping sites, other buildings) is allowded The only exception are the transit road from Zernez to Val Müstair, well signmarked and well maintained hiking trails as well as some huts for the park staff.

I met a group of ‘older’ gents from Zug on their annual hiking holiday while on the bus between Zernez and Mustair and they were doing a hike to S-Charl which I visited by bus instead (the easy option) - it may have been something like this
https://www.engadin.com/en/tours/hig...ing-s-charl-lu

....’only 2 hours up and 2 hours down’ one told me. They were in their 70’s and 80’s.

Adelaiden is mentioning a easy and very popular trail (never crowded by far!).
You can hike from S-charl bus stop to either Pass dal Fuorn bus stop or Lü bus stop or even up to the Unesco World Heritage monastery of Müstair (either via Lü or via Cruschetta - Val d'Avigna)..
Midway, you find a tiny basic restaurant at Alp Tamangur Dadaint (open during the season only).
