A week in Stockholm?

Greetings -

We have been researching a trip to Stockholm and wondered if anyone could comment on staying there for more than a few days (7-10 days). Most of the comments on the forum seem to be for shorter stays.

To give a little context, when we travel we usually like to alternate museum & cultural sites with days of just hanging out and soaking in the local atmosphere of the place we are living/staying at the time. We also like to take in the local music scene and spend time out doors walking, biking, taking in the scenery. It looks like we could have a very relaxing long week of cultural sites, cafes, etc. with one or two day trips thrown in for good measure while staying in Stockholm without feeling like we are pushing too hard or have nothing to do.

Thoughts and/or suggestions?

Possible day trips would be Drottningholm, a ferry ride (or overnight trip) through the archipelago and/or Vaxholm, still working through that part.

Drottingholm is fascinating especially if you can tour the theatre... or even better attend a performance. Another nice trip is to Gripsholm. There used to be a wonderful restaurant there. I've forgotten the name but as I recall its been there forever. Check into a trip to Visby.. another interesting island. A few trips combined with all the things to see In Stockholm itself should certainly occupy 7 days! I envy you your leisurely trip.

I was in Stockholm for 6 days without feeling bored..
Day trip to the Summer Palace was lovely.
It is a stunning city ( except near the train station).

Thanks for the quick replies. I suspected that we would be okay for an extended stay, but wanted a second opinion.

Thanks for the suggestions on other side trips, we will definitely look into those as well.
