A week in Corsica
My husband and I are thinking about spending a week in Corsica at the end of September. We prefer to be based in one or two places and not move everyday . We love to hike and prefer that over the beach but would like a day at the beach as well. We like small B and B's and great food. This is a last minute add on to a trip and really don't know much much about this island but it looks amazing. Would love suggestions for the best place to be based, B and B's or small hotels, etc.

Corsica is high on my list. I recently bookmarked this article by a Corsican photographer: http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000...270667192.html

Will you have a car?
We stayed in this simple but very comfortable one bedroom apartment in a villa just outside of Saint Florent. Lovely base to explore the northern part of Corsica

Can I just mention you have tagged this as Italy... Corsica is France!
I LOVE the Balange region, Calvi or I'll Rousse is a fantastic base, with some amazing restuarants between the 2 ( it's about 20 minutes between the 2 .
Clavi hasa wonderful Citadel and nice port and some great restauarants.
I would say a car is essential though.
I adore Corisca and am going for a 5th time this September.

I don't know how it got tagged Italy! I know Corsica is part of France, but don't know how to change it.
We will rent a car. Can you please give me the names of the restaurants you like? Also, any recommendations for hotels or B and B's?

In Clavi : Aux Bon Amis, A Candella, U Fanale, in Algajolla - Le Chariot. Lumio - Le Mataharai ( this is on the beach, it's expensive but a lovely setting) mid way between Lumio and Clavi we are planning to try Pain de sucre. Again on the beach but an upscale place, friends of ours have been many times and said its fab.
Therre are several in I''ll Rousse I like but I can't remember the names. Half of the fun is wondering around and choosing where you want to go and anyway you are going slightly out of the main season so I don't think you will have any issues getting in.
Ref hotels depends on your budget? Might be an idea if you decide on an area see if there are any hotels you like / B &Bs and we can help. We always stay at a friends house so I can't give you personal recommendations of where I have stayed.
Corsica I'd a really great place , with some amazing beaches. The one ones we like are just past Algajolla going towards I'll Rousse, when you go n September I would think they we not be crowded at all
( we went to a great one by boat from St Florent ) but the many inland villages hold interest too. As you probably already now there are many hiking trails ( we don't hike !)

We will be in Corsdica in three weeks. Well, a bit more as we're first flying into Nice and staying there for 3 days. We will be going around Corsica with a car and so are staying in 4 different places. We fly into Calvi and stay for 4 nights. At the last minute hubby decided he wanted to see Bonifacio so after staying in Corte for 2 nights we'll head down south for a night and then to our final hotel in Ajaccio for a few days.
Guess we'll be there right before JClare gets there.
Seems unreal.
