a smokefree English pub?

I have lived in the UK for two years. It irritates me to hear that some Americans believe that the UK has no care of the dangers of smoking. To repeat what has been said earlier - there are many many pubs with non smoking sections, as well as a few totally non smoking bars/pubs. The TG Wutherspoons chain is one of the biggest (and cheapest) bars in London - it is policy of Wutherspoons that EVERY BAR of their's has a (large) non smoking section. Coming into summer the most pleasant place to sit in many pubs is outside in the garden bar (try some of the lovely pubs along the Thames). There are also many upmarket cafe/bars with non smoking sections. Yes you will find the average bar quite smokey, but walk another 100 metres, or turn a corner and I can guarantee finding a better environment. The Good Pub Guide is a great help (about £7).
Enjoy!
Jo
Check out the Evening Standard's pub listings; on the search function, you can specify 'no smoking' on the special features scroll-down bar:

http://www.thisislondon.com/html/foo...op_direct.html

Otherwise do what I do . . . take your half pint outside with everyone else on warm summer evenings!
Have a great trip.
Cheers,
-- T
