A New Year's Eve Toast

Its already New Year's Eve somewhere in the world, so, dear fodor's friends, let's hear some toasts. I'll raise an early glass and get it started:

Here's to a long life and a merry one
A quick death and an easy one
A pretty girl and an honest one
A cold beer and another one!
- Old Irish Toast

Here's to us all, God bless us every one!
- Tiny Tim's toast from A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens

I have taken more out of alcohol than alcohol has taken out of me
- Winston Churchill

May you live as long as you want,
and never want as long as you live.
- Traditional Irish Toast

Success to the lover, honor to the brave, health to the sick, and freedom to the slave.

Here's to each and everyone one of you:

May your glass be ever full.
May the roof over your head be always strong.
And may you be in heaven
half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back,
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
May the rain fall soft upon your fields,
And til we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of his hand~

An Irish Blessing (which is always accompanied with a drink and a hug)

Here's to a bright New Year
And a fond farewell to the old;
Here's to things that are yet to come
And to the memories that we hold.

Happy trails to all of you in 2004.

Lang may yer lum reek!
(Long may your chimney smoke!)

Some people add this second line:

Wi' ither folks coal!       &nb sp;       &nbsp ;
(With other people's coal!)

I'll keep drinking if you keep toasting. Here's one for my Camille:

"I have known many,
Liked a few,
Loved one,
Here's to you!"

Slainte Degas.

I will repeat dear Scarlett's Irish Toast:

May the road rise up to meet you;
May the wind be always at your back,
the sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again
May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

and add:

May you be in heaven 1/2 hour before the devil knows you're dead.

Best regards ... Ger

Here's another one:

May you always:

Work like you don't need the money,

Love like you've never been hurt,

Dance like no-one is watching,

Screw like it's being filmed,

And drink like a true Irishman.

I may as well finish this bottle:

May you be poor in misfortune

Rich in blessings

Slow to make enemies and

Quick to make friends

But rich or poor, quick or slow, may you
know nothing but happiness from this day forward
