9 Day Trip to Norway

We are planning a 9-day trip to Norway in early August with our teenage kids. We are thinking of spending a couple of days in Oslo, taking the train to Begen. Beyond that, our itinerary is wide open, and we're eager to soak in all the culture, scenic hikes, drives, and fjords the country has to offer. Any suggestions on how to make the most of our trip?

Choose a fjord or fjell and get off the train and get walking. The views are astounding. Even Bergen is a good base for walking.

There is a Norwegian web site describing the scenic drives of Norway. I would rent a car in Oslo and drive to Bergen via some combination of those scenic drives and leave a day or two for Bergen. Remember that Norway gets a lot of rain.

I would always take the train. It's a beautiful train ride and it's better than going by car.

But in other ways a road trip makes a lot of sense, especially with kids, if it can include some hut rental somewhere nice, a little hiking or biking, and generally "friluftsliv" Early august is perfect for that.
