7:40AM Departure from CDG
Need advice getting from our apartment on Rue Mouffetard (Latin Quarter) for an early morning 7:40AM departure at CDG. A taxi is our only choice, but any taxi company in particular, do they come that early, are they reliable? What time would we have to leave our apartment? Thanks for your help.

Why would a taxi be your only choice? You can get the RER from Gare du Nord starting at 4:56.
No problem booking a taxi, however. They will come running for a trip to the airport using "rate C". G7 is one of the best companies.

Haven't been to Paris in a while.
Just thought it would be a lot easier to take a taxi at 5AM, groggy and with luggage although I would like to avoid the expense. Wouldn't it be a real schlep to take the metro, then the RER to the airport, then the walk to the terminal? How much would a taxi be? What time would I have to leave going by taxi and by RER for the 7:40 departure? Thanks again!

I assume that Place Monge on Line 7 would be the metro station closest to your apartment. Trains on that line don't start running early enough for you to catch the 04:56 RER from Gare du Nord to CDG. You could take a taxi from your apartment to Gare du Nord and the RER from there. According to viamichelin.com, it's about a 15-minute drive from Place Monge to Gare du Nord.

Tim's suggestion is what I had in mind. But since robin23 did not specify the destination for the 7:40 a.m. flight, it is had to know how far ahead of time it is really necessary to be at CDG. If it is a Schengen flight, for example, one hour ahead of time is plenty at that time of day. That would permit taking the RER B directly from Luxembourg or Saint Michel around 5:30 and arriving at the airport around 6:10.
The G7 taxi site has a fare calculator, which says that a taxi from Mouffetard to CDG would cost from 47 to 58 euros at 5:30 a.m. This is not counting the cost of reserving a taxi for that time of day (I think it is 5&euro
, plus the charge per piece of luggage put in the trunk.

The Air France Cars don't start running until 7 am, so that option won't work either.
If you call out a taxi, you start getting charged from the time the taxi is dispatched.
We've never had a major problem finding a taxi on the street, even quite early in the morning. The most we've had to wait is 10 minutes, and we usually only have to wait 5 minutes. While in Paris, scout out the nearest taxi stands to your apartment. Hotels are a good place to look for cabs, too.
Are you flying BA to Heathrow? At the airport, there are only self check-in kiosks on the landside. Then you go through Immigration, then drop your bags off (or do full check-in, if had a problem with self check-in or if you prefer to deal with a human being). Baggage screening doesn't take place until you enter the gate-specific departure lounge for the flight, about 30 minutes before departure. The line to go through Immigration is usually relatively short - I don't think I've ever waited more than 7-8 minutes. I agree with kerouac that arriving by about 6:10 am should be enough time.
Note by the way that snack options at CDG are terrible, so buy yourselves some pain au chocolat or something similar the afternoon before your flight and take a picnic to the airport.
