Any info on sites, B&B's, etc. appreciated.

I'm currently trying to put together a trip to Wales next summer and have found a few sites on the web.

I'm sure if you use Google or another search engine you can find lots of other websites. I can't recommend any B&B's, since I haven't been there yet.

But if you only have six days, I don't think you can see all of Wales properly. What exactly are you interested in? The small towns/villages, the beautiful nature, the national parks, old ruins or something else? Or all of those things?

You don't mention time of year, your budget or where your plane lands/departs from (or if you are getting there by train/bus/car/whatever).

I'm sure there are lots of people here who can help you, but you need to give them some info to work with.

Thanks so much for your recommendations - both for the websites and for suggesting I add more info. 3 couples plan to visit Wales mid to late March (have not firmed up exact dates) and will be renting 3 cars. We enjoy staying in B&B's driving from small village to small village taking in nature, ruins and local shopping. Questions are: Which airport is most convenient; which towns and ruins are the most "must see"; is there a central location where day trips are possible or should we plan on moving on every day or so? Any other tips are much appreciated.

Do you have a preference for North or South Wales? With only 6 days I would concentrate on one or the other.
Once you have decided which then recommendations as to airports, places to sty and what to see can be made.

We loved Conwy, enjoyed our stay at Castlebank Hotel B&B, and would recommend Dolwyddelan castle ruins for a lovely ramble.

What research have you done/places you've already decided to visit? Are there any 'musts'?

Budget?

No single location will be a good base for the whole country - but in 6 days you won't be able to see the whole country anyway. But that doesn't mean you have to move every night either.

First you need to decide if you'll concentrate on the north or the south (the gorgeous Pembroke coast can be combined w/ either North or South Wales)

Which airport depends a fair bit on where you are flying <u>from</u> and the schedules.

Manchester or Liverpool are convenient for N Wales. Cardiff, Bristol, or Heathrow are good for the south - but any airport can work.

If you are three couples and want to stay in a B&B you will need to make sure the place has enough rooms. I have a slightly different problem since I travel alone and really don't want to pay extra for an unused bed in a double room.

With three cars you will have a lot of freedom to get around, but you will also have to find and pay for parking space. Are you planning for each couple to go off somewhere separately each day or will you do some things together? Do all of you have the same interests? The same budgets?

My current plan, for late June 2011, is to fly with Ryanair to London and take a train/bus to Cardiff. I'm thinking of using Cardiff as a base for a week, doing daytrips by train/bus to parts of southern Wales. Then going to someplace (haven't decided exactly where) in northern Wales for another week.

texasbookworm: you mentioned Castlebank Hotel in Conwy. Their website says they "may close early January 2011". Is that only for January or forever? It looks like it would be a nice place to stay in.

I have no idea; first I've heard. That would be a loss.

OK - I've narrowed the trip to North Wales. The 3 couples have very similar interests, but we enjoy the freedom of taking off in different directions if the mood strikes. I would place our budget in a 3 stars out of 5 stars category.

Stars don't mean much. What is your actual nightly budget -- in £, €, $, any currency you want -- but give us a number.
