5 hours in Milan

I will have a 5 hour Saturday morning layover in Milan in March. Any ideas for sightseeing and lunch?

Take the metro into the heart of the city and enjoy their beautiful Cathedral and galleria next door. Nearby, there are cafes to enjoy. Also, there is one famous shopping street that is VERY expensive, but fun to look at.

Does the metro run from the new airport - Malpensa? I understand Malpensa is about 30 miles out and a 1 hour bus ride to center city.

If you love bargains on designer clothes, don't mind crazy stores (like Filene's basement), are female and under size 12, spent your 5 hours in Salvagente, one of the best designer bargain basements in Europe. It's on via fratelli bronzetti 16 (downtown milan), nearest bus stop is Accademia. If I were you, I'd see the cathedral and go straight there (10 minute taxi ride from the duomo).Have fun.

If you go to the cathedral, you must go up to the roof and see all the incredible marble statues.I found it to be a surreal experience. The castle is nice to see,but orientate yourself well.We walked around it 30 times trying to find our way back to the hotel. It was late at night and we had left our 13 year old son on his own so my memory is tinged with panic.
To: kbornhorst regarding travel from new airport at Malpensa. There is excellent motor coach service from the Airport to Milan Central Rail Station . It costs about $8-9 US dollars. It runs about every hour or so. We used it last October. Very comfortable and convenient. Paul J
