Absolutely! I just used my 240K mi on Delta for 4 tickets - 60k mi apiece - from the West Coast, but we have to go into AMS which is OK since we haven't been there in many years. After a three day look around we'll probably pick up a car and drive to Paris, spend another three days there, and then go on to La Coruna. We have three weeks for this trip. We shouldn't complain about FF programs since we've made many trips using miles starting in the 80s with TWA. Now we'll be going with AA which requires fewer miles and has more accessible trips.

You'll probably be absorbed into AA's program, no loss of miles. Hey, some of my Delta miles for our March trip come from PanAm !! When that went out of business, Delta bought its routes and transferred its FF program into Delta's. Not bad !!

Yes I think that eventually the USAir FF program will be merged into the AA FF program -- not sure how AA calculates miles needed for trips, so I figure I'll use up as many as I can now.

Updated potential itinerary:
Wed, March 26 - leave Philly
Thurs - arrive Madrid, train/plane to Granada
Fri - Granada
Sat - Granada
Sun - Granada
Mon - Seville
Tue - Seville
Wed - Seville
Thurs - Seville
Fri - Cordoba
Sat - Cordoba / late train to Madrid
Sun - Home to Philly
I think this is totally doable -- my new question (!!) is: can I do a day trip to Ronda from either Seville or Granada?
I don't want to rent a car, would prefer to rely on train/bus for travel between cities.
By minimizing hotel changes, I think I would get to do and see more -- instead of checking in and out of hotels every 2 days.
I will save Madrid for another trip.
Thoughts?

"Can I do a day trip to Ronda from either Seville or Granada?"
Absolutely not, totally unfeasible! Distances are too far, connections are slow and laborious and there is too much to see in Ronda for the limited time you would have there.

Really? I was hoping to be able to do at least a day trip from either Seville or Granada.
I've read some information online about day tours to Ronda, and although it is a long day (11 hours) I thought it would be worth the travel time.

Agree w/ pgriffin - but only if you have to go by train.
The (VERY circuitous) train route to Ronda from either Seville or Grtanada is about 13 hours. By car (from either city) is about 2.5 hours.
If you are set on seeing Ronda, then here's a plan:
Get a one car rental. Rent a car as you leave Granada and drive to Ronda. Overnight in Ronda and continue to Seville the next day and drop the car off and then taxi or bus to your Seville hotel.
You can make time for this by doing Cordoba a DAY TRIP from Seville (one hour way each way by train). We did this - we left our Seville hotel at 8am, saw the Mezquita, ALL of the Old City including including a very leisurely 2 hour lunch. we also walked around the area outside the Old City. We were back in Seville well before 6 p.m.
