40th Birthday Celebration in Amsterdam

To celebrate husband's birthday in November - want to take a short break to Amsterdam (without young son). Any tips on good accommodation (traditional hotel rather than business-type).

My husband and I just returned from a week in Amsterdam & Paris and stayed at two terrific small hotels in Ams - Hotel Toren (maybe Toren Hotel) and Canal House, both on Keizergracht, both around $125 US. Both came highly recommended and I concur. Located on K Canal, they had very comfortable beds, sizeable rooms, good breakfasts (eggs at Toren) and friendly staff. It's a quiet neighborhood very near Anne Frankhuis. We walked everywhere. Walking (strolling?) time from hotels: about 10 minutes to the flower market, 15-20 minutes to Rijk, 25 min to Central Station, and there are a number of terrific cafes and restaurants, all very affordable, in the neighborhood. As you may know, Amsterdamers (?) are some of the friendliest people on the face of the earth. Ask for a recommendation and you won't be disappointed. Have a terrific trip and a happy birthday!
