Hi JANISJ,
Wow, I have been looking forward to your TR and it did not disappoint. That special dinner package before the Tattoo sounds wonderful.
And I would love to stay at HORSEGUARDS. Glad you had such a lengthy tour of Parliament. Very special.
Your GTG at the Coal Hole sounds great. Wish I could have been there.
Following along with interest...

Great trip report JanisJ. We will be in London in October so this really has whet the excitement. Who did the Parliament tour? We are staying in a flat with no view but I checked out the Horseguard. It looks amazing especially for the fireworks. Sigh someday!

" . . .and talked about all of you who weren't there "
Haha!
Great trip report as always, janis. It was lovely to see you again, and I look forward to the next time.

If you mean what company . . . there are no 'commercial' tours. They are offered through the Houses of Parliament website

julia_t: I might be back in London the week between Christmas and New Years. - but will you be off skiing then?
stokebailey: "I'm only envious about the gtg, "
Not even a teensy bit envious about Hamlet?

Well.... Ok, but just the GTG and Hamlet, and the piles of pillows, the soft robes, teas, biscuits, chocolates, getting to stroll right into the Shoes exhibit....

janisj ---The more I read these posts, the more I think
it would be a GREAT service to travelers to the UK (and elsewhere?) if you would put together a paper or list of some sort, with updates, on travel tips, UK information, or maybe your own online blog.
I know you occasionally differ with other posters..and I love that interaction, but the information I have gleaned from you, is truly wonderful.
Any thoughts on making a list of tips, suggestions, or a blog?

^%$#&# . . . friggin' site won't let me post again. I wrote a long installment and it wouldn't preview or post - just froze. I saved it but apparently the programming throws up all over itself when one tries to copy/paste.
So I'll try to post it after they fix things - IF they fix things

Janis, try copy/paste/copying your text through a simple text edit/write program before pasting here. Your word-processing program is probably adding in all sorts of hidden formatting that the website doesn't like: a basic text editor (if you're Windows, use Notepad) will strip all that out.

I've done that (and more). I'm not the only one having this problem intermittently. Long thread on the Help forum.
"Your word-processing program is probably adding in all sorts of hidden formatting that the website doesn't like"
Could be -- but the initial 'non-post' was composed/typed in the "Your Reply" text box so nothing at all should have been embedded. It was only after it wouldn't post that I saved it (having been burned more than once I know to do that)
There was some sort of 'security filter' (wrong term but I didn't entirely understand the explanation) that was adjusted last week and I was only able to post after that. I'll give Bryan time to fiddle things again . . . fingers crossed.

Well, I have been trying to post on this thread for days - apparently Fodors does not like my tablet (or vice versa).
Anyway, on a desktop now so can say I am enjoying your trip report as usual, janisj. I think a Parliament tour may be on my next trip agenda . . . which just may be a Halloween trip. Fingers crossed.

OK -- I tried starting a new thread to finish the TR . . . and got a system rejection error message when I tried to post it. This is one screwed up website.
It may be a while before you learn how it went w/ Mr. Cumberbatch . . .

Good luck with it! Looking forward to reading more...I'll be in London over Christmas with a short break to Cheltenham between the 23rd and 27th so if you're in town let's try and arrange a meet....

Bryan posted a couple of hours ago that they are working on it but so far no joy
julia_t & kmowatt: I have no set plans yet -- just booked my flights/flat and will be in London arriving Boxing Day and leaving Jan 1. Might take a day or over night trip to Paris during that time, or a day trip to Canterbury or Bath. We can talk more closer to the time when more of our plans are firming up.
julia_t: It would be great - I could take the train out one day to visit you - or if I do go to Bath we could maybe meet for lunch or dinner there.
kmowatt: I'll be available most any time for drinks or??
