4 plus weeks in Corfu?
I'm trying to plan a trip for next summer. The plan was to rent a house in Corfu, large enough for at least 10 ppl, for apprx 4-6 weeks. I've heard from a few people (mostly friends from UK) that Corfu is extremely popular w/British and German travelers and might not be the place for our low key family vacation. We chose Corfu for it's proximity to Albania where we have family. Any ideas on another island or recent experiences on Corfu?

Corfu is very popular with British and German travellers and some of them prefer lively resorts with plenty of nightlife. However, others prefer quieter, more peaceful areas for a low-key, relaxing holiday and Corfu caters for this type of traveller too - it's a big island!
Have a look at some of the resorts in the North East of the island where the Rothschild family own their private estate - places like Agni, Kaminaki, Kalami or Ag Stephanos East. Descriptions of all of these can be found here - http://www.agni.gr/guides/resort_guide/resort_guide.asp
Or take a look at Corfu's smaller neighbour, Paxos, for an even more laidback atmosphere - http://www.agni.gr/paxos.asp
If there are 10 of you going, you might like to consider renting this villa - http://www.villanero.eu/index.htm

Oh, you might also be interested in this article by Rough Guide founder, Mark Ellingham, on his return to Corfu after 30 years.

i agree with xenos...corfu offers a variety of areas that are very different.
but yes, it is very popular with british tourists.
kassiopi is a nice town that is pretty low key. there are beautiful large villas just outside of the town centre. kassiopi is about the closest you can get to albania i believe. the boat to albania leaves from corfu town.
in general, i don't like going to places like corfu in the heart of the summer (crowded, inflated prices, etc). but many people have no choice, i suppose.
